Is it possible that the geopolitical landscape has changed in the last 1.6 decades? Everything else has. I think that you live in a cold war time warp.
Your mis-statement is that you said you think. Did you bother to read the article? If you did and are paying attention to current events then you would realize that Russia has reached the point that their satellite countries are no longer within their sphere of influence and have flipped to NATO. There is conflict on her borders while her influence has diminished on the world stage and her military is the strongest foreign policy tool she posesses. Vladamir Putin is attempting to rally the old guard to restore Russia's influence which may provide a volatile scenario on the world stage. The point of retrieving such an old article is to illustrate that our national policy makers do their research when it comes to analyzing the future as our security is concerned. Read the article objectively and ask yourself if we have not witnessed what was described as possible scenarios in our time. Do your research to find if Russia has diminished its military might. While many refer to the US as the only super power, that notion only gives us a false sense of security. Russia still holds a large, viable, nuclear and conventional arsenal. Today.
