Cabrini Parking Hearing
We can surmise from the pan shot of the people in attendance at the meeting that there was opposition to the planned acquisition. Since the Town Talk and KALB have both done puff pieces to fulfill their obligation to cover the story, can anyone else enlighten the rest of us as to what transpired? How good is Cabrini's case and how sensible and adamant is the opposition?

I read on the towntalk story chat today that the idea of expanding across the street and having a walkway above the street was ludicrous. I think NOT! I've seen many freeways with walkways across the entire SIX lanes of traffic, so the idea that Masonic is a major thruway and therefore not good for a walkway is hooey.
This is dedicated to Rod Noles, The Cabrini Gang, our illustious leaders that were elected to protect citizen interest, and all others that detest green spaces;
"BIG YELLOW TAXI" by Joni Mitchell
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
I was at the meeting, which was indeed quite packed. The case Cabrini presented consisted of Stephen Wright CEO saying a lot of nothing in a not very congenial manner-but what it boiled down to was this...
We are expanding the hospital. We do not have enough room. Doctors who would come here are not coming because we have no room. We did not bid on the Aiken Optional proerty when it was available because a group of our doctors wanted (and got) it. We HAVE NO ALTERNATE PLAN. Our only plan to accomodate this HUGE millions of dollars expansion we are planning is to purchase 8 acres of your greenspace and put up a one story 30,000 square foot building surrounded by asphalt to park on. We really do not give a shit where you relocate the ball parks-it is not our concern. No, we have never even considered building up instead of out. We are so confident that this deal will go through we are not even going to make an attempt to make the citizens of this fine town think we give a damn.
There is property directly across the street from the main entrance of Cabrini which is most likely accessible for construction of their needs if only they'll make use of it! And a walkway IS an option!
